    FG - 42%
    LAB - 19%
    FF - 16%
    SF - 11%
    IND - ?

    Leaders approval rating:

    Enda Kenny - 65%
    Eamon Gilmore - 53%
    Micheal Martin - 46%
    Gerry Adams - 37%

The Government has come through the first 100 days pretty much unscathed and who would of thought Enda kenny as Taoiseach could have an approval rating of 65%? The first big test will be the budget.

It's heartening to see that, despite the shrill protestations of those who complain that the government hasn't solved all our problems in 100 days, as the former claim they promised, the electorate have realistic expectations of what can and cannot be achieved, and judge the government accordingly.

Still, early days yet, and they haven't faced a major challenge. Interestingly, the fact that we're so far up sh!t creek might stand to the government.

MM at 46%. The Irish people had better be presented with a long list of why going back to Fianna Fail is a bad idea at the next election.

We clearly need a new reforming party for the center voter who swung from FF to FG/Lab in the past two elections, and who will see that FG/Lab in power aren't exactly mad on transforming the underlying rot in Irish government either.

Another one ..... why don't you just join Fianna Fail and change it from the inside instead of bitching about it? (This is of course you don't agree with what the government parties are doing, because if you do, you should probably get involved with one of them). The last thing the country needs is another centrist party.

Because Fianna Fail, the only other center party sane voters could consider, is tainted and likely forever will be so?

Was that your first general election nimjegen? You really think that a new party (given how party funding operates in this country) can realkistically start from the ground up these days? Even the PDs came from the Dail gene pool. It will be persistence, more than their marketing might, that will eventually see a return of FF in my opinion. The only thing that would have destroyed FF, or can still destroy them, is if FG were to win an overall majority and Labour were to go onto the opposition benches. As it turned out, Gilmore advanced himself for short term gain while sacrificing the party in terms of its longer term possibilities as the second biggest party... I think FF will be the ultimate beneficiaries of that..

On the issue of FG, they should call an election before the budget, to confirm their mandate, i.e. to secure an overall majority. It might not work, the public could be particularly wary of handing FG - or any party - a majority in the run up to an important budget. Time will tell, but I think that for their sake FG should consider another election sooner rather than later.

No, sadly I have the same experience you do over watching the long term. Perhaps Fianna Fail will just have to be reformed.

I wouldn't mind them, if only they took their scolding as a message to completely reform the party and come back with some real vision for Ireland.

I'd vote for anyone with the courage of real conviction to make things better in this country.

There is no come back from FF from this. They will forever be known as the party that blew the boom and called in the imf. As a brand they are tainted forever. Expect FF TD's to start jumping ship when the polls wont move.

As it stands now we have a national government. If there is any move for a party it will be for Sinn Fein and ULA. Those of the right will stick with FG. FF as a center party are ideologically devoid in the current situation. Next GE will see Labour lose seats and Sinn Fein gain seats. FG will still be in government after the next GE, be in next year or 5 years.
