Stuck in a rut

    Hi all,

I'm just wondering if anyone can give some sort of advice on how I can get to be productive.

I'm a college student, finished for the summer (until early October) and I've been 'unsuccessful' everywhere I've applied for part-time work. I already volunteer with an organisation and getting more involved in that isn't an option right now.

I hate waking up in the morning and thinking that I may as well turn over and sleep for another few hours to pass the time. I'm living with my parents and so have food and rent covered but anything beyond that, I'm broke as I depended heavily on the maintenance grant throughout the college year.

So now, I've nowhere to go, no money even if I did have somewhere to go and pretty much no reason to get up most mornings. I'm really getting fed up with this.

To reiterate my question above, can anybody give me some tips/advice on spending my spare time wisely and boosting my morale, even (and I know this isnt the forum for it) job hunting tips. Otherwise the summer just seems endless.

    Many thanks in advance.

I'm in much the same position myself right now, OP, right down to the volunteering and I'm spending most of my time on the laptop so maybe I'm not the best to be giving advice! :P

I'm one of those people who loves learning things so I tend to find solace in reading endless internet articles on topics that interest me. If you want to feel as though you're doing something productive maybe you could try to do something that will benefit your work in your college course or help with your jobseeking by making you a more attractive employee.

For example, you could find out what's going to be covered in the next semester of your college course and get a bit of a head start on the reading list (Lord knows I could do with trying that one) or set yourself a goal to learn a new skill or software that might help you with your course. You could also look into finding some work experience related to your course or future career (though you've probably already tried this). I tend to turn to baking and cooking when summer rolls around and get a great kick out hearing my alarm in the morning and thinking "Today's the day I'm going to perfect my buttercream icing" but maybe I'm just strange and/or sad.

You could start a major project of setting up your own website, learning a new instrument, improving your fitness. Exercise is something that would probably benefit your health and mood in general, so that could be something to try? You could join a team or club for a sport you enjoy?

Hmm....I'm probably not being of any help here OP, probably should have asked what kind of stuff you're into? :pac:
