Boot's Own Brand Skincare

I'm in desperate need of a new facial wash, eye-makeup remover and moisturiser as all of the above have run out and I need to replace them. I'm on a budget so I was thinking of just buying Boot's own brand stuff as they are so cheap.

Is this a mistake? Are they actually any good, does anyone use them? And if you do what are they like, would you re-purchase?

    Thanks :)

I've never had a problem with it and I have very sensitive skin. I use the cucumber one because I find it refreshing and less harsh than the blue bottled one (plain perhaps??) but when I can affort the bit extra(or if it's on special offer :P) I use Garnier or Neutrogina which are both still quite affordable :)

I love the Cucumber facial wash, I used to use a Clinique soap (nearly €20 a bottle ) and then one day decided to try the Cucumber wash and I haven't looked back since.

I also use the moisturising lotion to take off make-up and find it just as good as the Clarins one I use.

I love the Cucumber facial wipes, but they make my skin sting so I don't use them.

Pond's have a lovely facial wipes which are really good as well.

I recently bought the Boots (blue) cleansing lotion, toner and facial wipes cos I wanted a cheap alternate for bringing on hols instead of my clinique stuff and they are pretty good. I tried the cucumber ones before and they stung my skin for some reason but thats probably just me!

Boots vitamin e skin care range is really good too (a little bit pricer than the essential (maybe 1 or 2 euro).

Their organic range is great, I love their eye makeup remover and the rosewater toner is lovely.

The Boots Originals (think that's what it's called.. it's stuff that they released when Boots first opened, in kinda vintage looking glass jars) cold cream is really good, it has olive oil and rosewater in it, but the moisturizer is horrible, really sticky. On the other hand, the Botanics cleanser for normal skin is really sticky, and the gel moisturizer is really nice, but not too intensive.

I have sensitive enough skin, can't use Simple brand as I break out in a rash have also had problems with some other brands.

Have used boots products before and decided to buy the cucumber wipes as they were reduced. Broke out in huge red lumps all over my face! :( Took about ten days for it to go down! Had to take antihistamines aswell so just test them first! That's my lesson learned!

I use the Boots wipes all the time for taking off make up before I properly cleanse and I think they're great. Have used their face wash and things but I think they're nothing to write home about. I do like the Botanics range a lot though.

I use the cucumber stuff from Boots own range and find them fine. My mother has very sensitive skin and these are one of very few that she doesn't react too.
I use a more expensive moisturiser alright. My friend is a beautician and told me that a cheap eye make up remover and cleanser is fine because you're not leaving them on your skin, but if there was one product that you could afford to spend a bit more on, make it moisturiser. That said I've used Aldi's moisturiser too and really liked it.

+1 to this. My sister in law is a beautician as well and she always preaches the importance of a good moisturiser. Saying that though, her salon uses Dermalogica and she got me hooked on it after smothering me with lots of free samples. I use their whole range for all my face products. They are expensive though, and I usually cry when one of them runs out cos they are pricey to replace!
In uni I used the Boots own brand all the time and found it great (the cucumber one) bar the wipes like some people have said, they brought me out in red lumps. I found the Aldi skin wipes very good (can't remember what they looked like, its a good few years back now), and I have a friend who swears by the Aldi moisturiser.

Their organic range cleansing wipes are fabulous - I buy them to use when I'm on holidays - best cleansing wipes out there IMO, love them.

When I'm on a budget I prefer to go to the baby section of boots as you will pay around the same for the products but get way more and you can guaruntee it will be kind on the skin. You can buy a sodium lauryl sulphate (a drying foaming agent) free top to toe wash which is great for the face and then boots own brand baby wipes. There are usually tonnes of gentle moisturisers to choose from as well. Problem sorted!

same happened to me:eek: to the point my face bled, but i have really sensitive skin. even some make up used to do that to me :( cant use nivea facial wipes either, but soap and glory "off your face" are brill. if a wincy bit expensive for 5euro (they are wipe afterall)

I use the Boots traditional skincare rosewater and glycerine toner to remove my make-up or after cleansing and I love it. Its no more than €3.

My skin isn't that sensitive just a small few products bring me out in a reaction. This one was extreme though. Lasted for 10days and my entire face was hot, bumpy and itchy. :(

    Heres a picture:

    After wipes:imag0032qu.jpg

    Skin Normally:img0195m.jpg

I now use the slightly more Expensive No.7 range. The hot cloth cleanser (€12.25) is brill and then I use a Clinique moisturiser (€45). I used to cleanse, tone and moisturise but I find these two steps now work much better. May be expensive but lasts foe AGES!

I would recommend that you stay away from them personally.

The cucumber cleanses tend to make skin break out, get sore and go very red.
I dont think you need to break the bank buying cleansers as alot of them are very similiar.

    I would strongly recommend:

Simple eye makeup remover:The clear liquid not the cream as i find that irritates eyes. You can buy this in Penneys 2 for 5euro

Roc Cleanser and toner, you can sometimes get these on special in boots or in Hickeys pharmacy on grafton street.

Elave Intensive cream moisturiser is fantastic and is about 4euros.

I wouldnt buy Clinique and more expensive brands as I have used them before and found very little difference between them and the most affordable brands.

The key with skincare is if something is irritating your skin or makes your eyes/skin sore, stop using it.
It sounds simple enough but alot of my clients will continue to use them anyways.

    Hope this helps
