A bit more info would help. Make/model of stereo, make/model of Laptop. Software used to play the music ?

Hard to give advice with what you've posted.

I think you need to read the manual !! The unit came with a software installation CD with the application needed to send the music to the Stereo. You're trying to use the unit as a set of speakers for your PC, this isn't how it works. It uses Musicmatch Software to "share" your music with the stereo so that it can access it and control it from the Stereos controls.

    From the Manual:
USB PC Link lets you playback your MP3 music through the powerful speakers of Philips sound systems instead of your PC speakers. By connecting a PC directly to your audio system with a USB cable, you can stream MP3 music directly to your sound system, transforming your PC into a 'massive MP3 music jukebox'. The control buttons on the sound system and remote control provide easy navigation and control of the MP3 music stored in the MusicMatch Playlist. You can also view song title information as well as elapsed play time on the sound system's display.

See page 14 of the user manual - available here . If that doesn't help let me know :)

On a personal note I think that thing is hideous !! Plus it works with Windows 98 !! How old is it exactly ? Would be interested in finding out if the software runs under Windows 7 ?!

Edit: I think the software you need can be downloaded from the Phillips website.

    Thanks for that.

Yeah i had already downloaded that software. There is a program called philips sound agent 2 that is the problem i think. I try to install it and it goes searching for the driver or whatever but cant find it.

There is a load of **** on the software i downloaded from philips so i dont know if im just not opening the right things or what!

I have played a few songs through the musicmatch jukebox but its the same thing, i just barely hear them coming through, so i presume i need that driver.

the stereo isnt too bad. great sound from it. i think its from 2004. got it fairly cheap there recently!
