Irish central heating radiator fittings...

I'm in England at present and heading over to Ireland to sort my house out. One major job is to fit a number of new central heating radiators I have just bought in England but I have been told by some friends that the fittings in some areas of Ireland are different to the UK sizes. It's for a house in Cavan where the neighbouring house owners said they couldn't easily use the radiators bought in the North.

Would anyone know if this is correct and, if so, is there an easy way to get around this; can I buy fittings that convert the radiator connections from UK to Irish sizes or should I just take the radiators back and buy them in Ireland?

I originally posted this in the DIY forum - wrong one, I'm guessing.

Good news, thank you. So, they're exactly the same size, just that we use a different measurements? I was told the Irish pipes are 1/2" which is 14.7mm but UK ones are 15mm but I have just read an old forum conversation that ends up saying English ones will be ok (I think).

    "A 1/2" pipe will fit into a 15mm fitting, but a 15mm pipe won't fit into a 1/2 fitting." ...http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055358896

    Here's hoping.

You fit your rad and its connections are 1/2" (English or Irish) you fit a irish rad valve and connect irish pipes, job done.

just buy your fittings in an irish B&Q, they're all british standard

you can use your English rads and rad valves here just buy a bag of half inch olives here in ireland and swap the 15mm olives for half inch ones. job done

Wush06, I went to Wickes (wickes.co.uk) to buy them as they were good value. The amount I was being quoted when I rang a few places in Ireland was around €15 - €40 more per radiator. B&Q Ireland's website isn't like the UK one - you can't see what products they have and what prices unfortunately so it's difficult to see online how much companies charge in Ireland.

Thank you Solnskaya and Dathi for your advice.
