wear a suit , get a hair cut , smile , shake hands , this is not a high profile job so there wont be too many tough questens if they ask your hobbies do not invlove drinking and going out clubbing , you want the job becaues you wanted to find a job that lets you work with people

My brother had one a while ago.

They asked who's their biggest competitor and an example where he gave good customer service.

If you don't mind me asking is this one of their shops in North Dublin, I applied for a Retail Operative position a couple of weeks ago and the closing date was the 18th.

    They may ask questions like:

: Tell me about yourself/Why you're right for the position
: give one example how you gave excellent customer service
: How you dealt with an angry customer or what would you do if faced by an angry customer
    : Weakness and strengths
    : Market competitors
: Where you see yourself in 5 years
: When you worked well as part of a team

Retail jobs can ask anything these days - its not just a case of showing up in nice clothes so go prepared.

These type of questions are EXACTLY what they ask. The competitors, teamwork, an angry customer, stressful situation and using own initiative are all questions they ask so be sure to have relevant examples prepared.

Best of luck, hope it goes well.

Is there any right or wrong answer to the '' Where do you see yourself in a few years time'' question ?

You don't need to wear a suit. Trousers and a shirt and shoes will do. You could wear a tie too if you want (I didn't).

They ask who their competitors are and for examples of when you used teamwork skills , examples of when you used communication skills and what good quality customer service is.

I'm going to ring tomorrow and see what the story is. If I am told that I haven't being short listed to the interview stage, which I reckon is most likely, I'm going to ask for some feedback to see if I can find out were I've being going wrong on every job application I send in.

Watch all of these episodes. I'd imagine there's loads of good tips & other sh*t in it. Seriously, check it out. 6 episodes to get through, now get cracking. That goes for you too Jingles.

You don't need to wear a suit just look respectable. They spend ages asking you about school/college/work experience and the competency questions are the usual like what everyone else said. It is a really easy interview just be friendly and try not to nervous. You don't need to know anything about the company history or any of that stuff they won't ask that!! Good luck, they are usually good at getting back to you like within a week from my experience!

You don't need to know about company history but its always impressive if you can show off that you do.

Basically once you get the interview in there and you can show good examples of team work, communication, customer service etc, you are available for the hours they wants and your reference check goes ok then you have the job!!

    hi,

i applied online, did the test, got an interview, never heard back :(

it was december, they needed a temp staff for 9 weeks as it was peak times. what i can remember is: they ask penneys competitor yes, they ask how u deal with difficult customer, they ask how u work in team, they ask what ud do if ur mate has difficulty in carrying a task.

i wish u all the best for ur interview and if u do get it, let us know all the bargains at penneys lol

Got an email back of penneys, same story as usual because i've no experience.

However though I can see this whole needing experience thing falling back on employers in years to come when eventually the people who have experience retire ect and they'll have no choice but to hire people without....or in other words when its not an employers world out there anymore.
