I'm with 3 mobile for the past year and never any problems until today. I trya nd log on and a message comes up from 3 that i have exceeded my monthly usage and have used an extra €55 since June 10th, the first day of month for me.

Now my deal is €19 for 15gb a month and i have never exceeded this in the past so am at a loss to understand how i could have done so in ten days.

I eventually got throught to customer support but they couldnt give me details of my bill and said i will have to wait until july 10th for my next bill to see what date/where the extra usage came from.

Im at a complete loss, anyone have any ideas what i mioght have done to exceed the data usage without my knowledge?

If you don't have a clue, we don't have a clue. Your not using a B260a and never secured the wireless network?
Also if your using any p2p downloaders like limewire, bearshare etc. The can be constantly sending data up in the background without your noticing.

i started using utorrents last week and downloaded a film, just the one. This is similar to bearshare etc isnt it?

Admitting illegally downloading is never a smart thing;)

You might have downloaded the film once, what you didn't know is that when you do, you also become a seed and allow the rest of the internet to upload it from your computer.
Your 15GB is for upload and download, you may have only downloaded 2G but sent 13GB.

If your going to be using the internet more your probably better jumping up to the 29.99 for 60GB allowance. It's also worth getting something to notify you and let you block incoming and outgoing data. I'm not sure what program to use in windows maybe some else might be able to help.

Ok, thanks for that. Didnt realise that. How about watching streams of tv shows etc, matches ? That doesnt seem to use up that much data so would i be better off just doing this?

Streaming uses up a lot of your cap, if you use you tube, bbc player, rte player or live streaming all of those eat up your allowance if you are a heavy user.

15GB isn't a lot really if you stream so be careful and check how much you have left regularly.

I could easily use 15GB in 11 days if the internet speed would let me.

average stream of an average movie is about 800mb or so... usually downloads of films are larger and can be a few gb... the average youtube video is about 2mb per min... but of course, the quality varies the size

not exact stats but ballpark figures...

streaming probably fraped your bandwidth, and the torrent also.. if u dont close/disable the torrent you were probably uploading data unannounced to yourself... there could be background services etc running also

just check ur data use on mythree.ie and see what the jazz is

3 recently updated their download limits... thankfully they done this a month after i signed up for a 30gb a month package!

Ya, just checked my utorrents and thats exactly what has ahappened. i have now removed utorrents so i presume that is it solved and it wont happen again?
