lets suppose thinga are about to go tits up.

what are you predictions on the time scale of

    1) greece defaulting

    2) contagion spreading and Ireland/portugal/spain defaulting

    3) the euro collapsing

    4) our euro savings being hugely devalued?

    5) time scale from "run on the banks" to freezing bank accounts?

well point 5 should happen before point 4 because there's no point taking your money out of the banks after its been devalued. i know a lot of people are considering moving their money out of ireland based banks but just haven't done it yet as it doesn't look like we're leaving the euro in the very near future. nonetheless it is interesting how many people i talk to who are considering opening swiss bank accounts or euro accounts in the north. as regards the timeline 1 & 2 could be in a matter of weeks/couple of months. 3-5 might not happen at all but you'd imagine it would be many months before that could happen.

With any luck at all, 1 & 2 will happen within this July-August...

I'd love to see 3 happening around September-October.

If we stopped doing the same stupid thing, then we might start getting better results, instead of kicking the can up the road and putting off the day of reckoning and following the same crazy policies that we've been at for 3 years now and have done nothing for the country except set it back 20 years.

I expect 1 and 2 to occur within the next 12 months. I think in the next few months, Greece will labour on. Beyond that, who knows, although the looming elections in Germany could be interesting, along with the elections in France, to a lesser extent

not to be facetious - but I already do..........I shop in all the best food emporiums.

sadly I'm not important enough to skip the queue.

I don't know, I have moved my money out of AIB a while ago and split it half and half with another bank in case something horrible happens one of them. The other is a UK bank but it is an Irish branch.

If everything goes tits up, I don't really think an Irish citizens savings will be safe in a UK bank and I don't have enough to warrant opening up a Swiss bank account.
