(they offer free delivery to Ireland regardless of order size)

and in no particular order -

    http://www.probikeshop.com/

A lot of the above actually tend to be a fair bit cheaper than CRC. Most of them will charge for shipping though so are more suited for buying a few items at once.

And if you have a specific item which you are looking for it could be very beneficial to pop it in to a 'froogle search'. Also a very handy way of discovering other online bike shops.

Not a big fan of any of the bike shops in Cork tbh. These guys http://capwellcycles.ie/ are quite friendly. Small shop, not particularly high end (€1000), chatty staff and friendly. Visited a few while considering the BTW and got the bike snob treatment, told them what I wanted and they told me I didn't want that.

I did. It depends on how your employer has chosen to administer the scheme. As far as the revenue are concerned, they have explicity stated that bikes bought from abroad DO fit the purpose of this scheme.

The only shop I have experience of purchasing a bike in is Victoria Cycles and had no issue. I've used The Edge Superstore a few times though for general servicing and purchase of random bits and bobs. I won't be going back unless I'm badly stuck for something that I need in a hurry.

I've used the new edge superstore recently and i'm not too impressed. Very fancy and all but a bit pricey for what i needed and they botched a repair job.
You can't go wrong with speedy spokes in riverstick, Brian there is always helpful and he also runs Douglas cycles if that is closer, both take part in the cycle to work scheme. :)

I'm actively trying to get to the shops locally rather than go online, as otherwise, when I do need them, they'll be gone. My experience:

The Edge: pricey, but the lads all in there race and know their stuff. A few weeks back I was going on holiday, renting a bike and had trouble getting one of the pedals off. I dropped down there and they had it off in a second. I asked for some grease and the lad said we only have the big tubs, you wont need that, so he gave me a couple of small sachets to use. All free.

Douglas cycles: Good services every time, but a few times I went to collect the bike mid-afternoon and they were closed, back in 10 minutes. Hung around for a while but no sign. I appreciate its a family business or whatever and can understand people slipping out, but it's a pain.

Capwell: Again, no complaints about the service, but I asked for a breakdown of costs and the fella got a bit smart. Can't be doing with that **** so havent been back.

Kilgrews: Only went in to buy a tube and some gels, but they were friendly and helpful.

The Edge is fairly pricey alright, Brian in Riverstick is way cheaper, most things I've bought down there were the same price online.

I still buy alot of things online though, attitudes of some shop owners can make or break a place!

If it's your first time buying a road bike I would definitely buy local, you can't beat throwing your leg over the actual bike you were thinking of buying.
