Is home leaflet delivery worth it anymore?

I know someone considering leafleting for their business. Years ago I worked at a company where we did it, but nowadays it seems the volume of junkmail has gone through the roof and it doesn't seen as if it would be that effective anymore. Anyone have good (or bad) feedback from leafleting?

I get so much junk mail through my door now that it's just picked straight up and put in the recycle bin without looking at it.
I doubt I'm the only one who does that.

I use it for one client and we find it very effective. Targetted areas and carefully targetted times. It needs careful planning and monitoring after distribution.

I'd be another person who bins it without reading it.

Also, I recently put a "No Junk Mail" sign on my letter box. Now when I get junk mail in I actually find it quite frustrating and it'd tend to make me quietly swear "F*ck you, <insert business name here>" as I throw it in the bin.

It's spam, unsolicited and unwanted. It's not OK when it's in my inbox, and it's not OK when it's in my letterbox.

Ask yourself, how many people are you willing to p1ss off and frustrate for each potential customer you win? What ratio would you be comfortable with?

I dont have a 'no junk mail' sign up as then I wouldn't get the take away menus!

However anything else goes in my bin.

People with "No Junk Mail" signs up, are local papers still delivered? These, I suppose you could classify as spam, but the good ones have actual local news/content in them.

Nope, but I'd consider it a small price to pay for less junk mail.

I think they are if you target them properly but someone told me recently if you a have 30,000 door drop realistically you are probably looking at 300 leads which could lead to 30 sales. Use it if you have the budget but its only one tool in the box, you need to have other avenues to reach possible customers.

Apart from take aways I can't think of any time I used a service I found out about from a leaflet drop though.

I keep to hand a few menus and area services. I rarely use the takeaways and have never had to use the services - handyman, painters, taxis etc.
What I have used are the magnetic calendars that come in. One from the local purdy parlour & hairdresser and one from the local estate agents. One for the fridge and one for the shed beside the bin calendar.

I like having them handy, but so much comes theough the door, it gets a bit ridiculous. I dont use Dominos at all. Yet they are the biggest offenders. Theyre very big - I know you have to standout, but you dont have to be the size of the parish newletter to do so.
