    I guess there is bitterness and mistrust on all sides, as science is expected to give definite answers (where fisheries science is a minefield of assumptions and unknowns), but politicians (and I have the Eu's common fisheries policy in mind when I say this) tend to negotiate on the basis of the demands of their constituents in order to further their political careers. Ecology does not even figure in the end, as the scientific advice fed in one end of the machine comes out unrecognizable at the other...
