you collect if and when he actually does it.

I know a lot of people who would've bet money on Tiger at 12/1. You just can't predict the future. Not for me

So what happens if you bet on 8-10 majors, when do you collect you're money to be sure he's not going to get 11? When he dies?

Is that the bet his father and a few other's have that he will the British Open before he is 25? They did the bet a long time ago.

    Awful awful bet
Even if it wins you have given PP a 20 year loan with no inflation aspect

they have 500 BP on him but dont know at what price.

Was wondering what the odds were for him to win double figure majors but the price is terrible aswell. Dont think he will break jack's record but really think he will get double figures.

if you are betting on him getting 8-10 majors then you collect when he gets 8.
if you are betting on him getting 11 majors then you collect when he gets 11.

    Are you sure??

So if you bet on him just to win one at 28/1 when do you collect it??

:) that is a good point.

I'm no expert in betting, just thought that was how it was done, now I'm utterly confused and wondering why in hell would you ever bet on something like this.

No correct Dermo, if you're betting that he'll win between 8-10 then you would have to wait till he retires on 8,9,10. If he won 11th while playing then you'd lose your bet.

Anyway, ridiculous bet. Bet on him winning each and every major for next 10-15 years or so, if you think he'll break the record he'll do most of it in that timeframe and you'll walk away with better than a 12/1 bet to be collected in about 30-40 years. Your 12/1 win would just about cover inflation.

I understand that now but why does this betting style even exist? Surely people aren't stupid enough to wait 30-40 years for a payout that isn't even that big

Those odds are the same as a favourite winning a major. When do you collect you're bet though, when he's retires? People play until there 60's.

He's 6/1 for the british open, double what you would bet on the 12/1 shot on that.

Time to close thread me thinks before we get into another "Will he beat the record?" thread

Bit of publicity for bookies is about the main reason for them standing that bet.
