I've done the 3rd year of this course and I have to say I really enjoyed it. Final year coming up.
Your first year will be more general science focused and as long as you pay attention you should be fine with the chemistry.
Biotechnology is very much geared toward drug development and various fermentation technologies, immunological applications and genetics.
You will continue learning a language, either French or German, until 3rd year and there is also a pretty major business module that covers various aspects of management, marketing and accounting. This involves a group project business plan that accounts for a large percentage of marks.
If you're into biology and think you wanna go into it I'd recommend. It can be a bit techy but biology is these days.

    :)

If you want to know anything else, PM me. I've just graduated.

Everything is a bit murky, like you don't find out what is happening the next year (i.e. the third year business project) until you actually start. If you know someone the year ahead it can help but only so much.

Biotech is nice because it is a small class (only really matters after 2nd year) usually less than 20 so you get quite close. This is compared to the biochemistry class which in first year is hundreds (but thins out to about the same in final year).

There are a lot of problems with the course, but they are being improved all the time. Hopefully our feed back from this year will help improve things by the time you get to final year.

If you've done chemistry for the leaving, the first two years will be so much easier. Biology will help again but most people fail on chemistry. It's dead easy, they tell you whats coming up on the exam and it's barely at a leaving cert level in first year but still over half of the class will fail it.

Don't be afraid to use the tools in the library like the writing support group. I never did and I regret it. I understood biochemistry really well, studied my ass off for final year exams and still struggled to get over 60%. I think it was down to me not giving them what they want. The support groups might be able to help.

One final tip, do the ordinary level maths in first year. There are no prizes for the honours maths, and it is MUCH harder. I was the only one doing it from my class and it took time that I should have spent studying/drinking other things.

I'll give you a well deserved thanks because I really want more information about this course but I can't get it online, school or even from the college its self!
Would you mind answering my post? You'd really be helping me out:)

Done but I'm not much help.

I'm happy to answer specific questions, but make sure that you think I'll be able to answer them first.
