Should my daughter qualify for this?

My daughters mother applied for this
    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/social_welfare_payments/disability_and_illness/domiciliary_care_allowance.html

a few weeks ago, she got a letter today saying that my daughter is not eligible for it. This IMO is an absolute joke, she has 2 dislocated hips and was put into a Spica cast in February.

That was removed a few weeks ago in preparation for her having an operation on both hips which will involve bone grafts, and then wires and pins holding her hips together.

The letter stated that there is no difference in looking after her and any other child her age. She is 2 FFS, she cant walk anymore, she cant sleep in her cot like a regular child, she cant move anywhere on her own, she needs constant attention in case she falls off the couch or wherever she is sitting. She needs 2 nappies rather than 1.

Surely they are taking the píss with this letter.

Appeal it and get consultants, GP's etc to write up letters supporting it...

Most people seem to get turned down first time out. Have a look at

You have probably been declined because you simply did not show enough evidence that she needs all this extra care. your probably sat there now shouting at the screen "how much bloody evidence do they need". Well, what their really looking for is a "diagnosis", a label if you like. Does your daughters condition have a name for example? You need to get a really strong letter from your little girls consultant/specialist describing and naming her condition , if it is a condition, or the effects of the accident, if it was an accident. The letter should be more of a report, if you want to nail this. It should detail all the appointments you will need to attend, and all the physio that will be required, extra surgical equipment needed for home, all the medication required. you get the picture. the specialist/consultant is usually quite happy to do this. in other words you have to put your "case" to the Dept.Does your daughter have a Primary Medical Cert? Also istrong letter from your little girls GP explaing how you will have to accompny her to the appointments, stay over night, make arrangements for your other children to be taken care of (if you have other children), how you or your OH (should you have one) have had to take time off work, (if you have, proof of having taken time of would be required. a letter from employer?) once again, you get the picture. Good luck with your appeal.
