I have a MK III 1.9 diesel Golf that wont start.

I have checked the heater plugs, they are all new.I also checked the pressure in the fuel pump, all good there as well.

The engine is turning over but it just doesn't start.I have also checked the fuses.

    Any advice?

have you checked if there's diesel going through the injectors?

yes there is.There is diesel coming to the engine,it just wont turn over.I only recently bought the car.I found a grey electrical cable near the battery and like an eejet,I pulled it out before following it to see where it was coming from.

I wonder would the previous owner have wired the heater plugs straight to the battery,in order to start it?

Heater plug issue, maybe a relay is gone and that wire was used instead. Follow the wire from the heater plugs and see where it ends up.

Unfortunately I removed the lead before I followed it,so I don't know where it was leading to. I will check the relays this evening.Thanks.

Check is their power going down to the plugs or did you actually remove the wire were it goes onto the plugs.

it was an grey electrical cord, like the one you would use when wiring a house.I don't know where is was going.I just pulled it out as soon as I seen it,it was a home-made fix.

Sounds suspiciously like the culprit to me....

    relay id say!

when you take out your realy look at the terminal numbers on it, then bridge terminal 30 and 87 with a small piece off wire and at least then you can rule that out!!!
