Hi all. After 6 months of trying I have finally landed a new job. 30+ speculative CV's sent out, 40+ applications. 4 knockbacks after first interviews but eventually I made it!
But now the first day beckons and I'm a bag of nerves, haven't had a first day for over 8 years. Has anybody recently been through this or is just about to?, anybody got any tips or there own stories they'd like to share?!
    Thanks!

I started a job a few years ago and was a bit nervous, so when in front of a few people one person asked me about where I'd worked before etc, I cut it of with "I'll tell you about it again" as I didnt want to be the centre of attention. If I did it again I would be more open and make an effort to be friendly. As they say you never get a 2nd chance to make a first impression.

    Congratulations.

    Sound advice:
Get plastered drunk the night before and go in "fashionably late" and reeking of booze with lipstick on your collar. It'll let your new colleagues know that you're a "fun" kind of guy.

Also ask who'll pick up your workload when you're having days where you don't give a sh!t. It'll show them that you care about results and that you can delegate.

To break the ice with your colleagues try a party piece such as farting the National Anthem. The females in the office will especially appreciate your elephant impersonation...you know where you pull your trouser pockets out for his ears...the trunk you should know.

If the boss has a picture of his wife on the desk, compliment her breasts and enquire if she's a "goer" in bed. It will show that you are genuinely interested in family life.

Also leave early shouting "Seeya! Wouldn't wanna be ya!". It will show that you can get your work done much quicker than others and it will give them the incentive to improve their efficiency.

    :pac:

Seriously, just be yourself. Good night's sleep before hand. Up early. Good hearty breakfast. Dress smart. And head on in giving yourself plenty of time. You'll be grand.

Be yourself and try not to worry/stress too much. Nobody started in a job and knew how to do everything. People will always help you when you are new. Let them! Best of luck.

    Be early
    Be smartly Dressed
    Be polite
    Listen more than talk
Do not harp on about how it was done in a previous company
Wait until somebody has finished talking before you say "i know"
Wait until you know before saying "I know"
Bring a notepad or diary and take notes
    Remember peoples names
    Be postive

    And Good Luck !
