Using Sky Card abroad

Hi All

I have a question.

My folks currently have a house in France and they were set up with a Sky box there. It only has the very basic channels like BBC, ITV etc. not even any Sky.

My question is, I have a SKY+ hd box in my place, could I bring my card over to France and insert into the box in France (bearing in mind the boxes are different models, standard sky box vs HD+ box). Would it work?

Hi Kilns,

If the card has a subscription on it then the answer would be no, as the card is paired to the box at home. If the card is a non subscription, FTV card then you should be able to take it over and pair it the box in France.

I may stand corrected but I do think it depends on what card you have.

Yes no problem bringing the box and card, but as previously mentioned, the card is paired to the box.

What size dish are they using over there do you know? I know that the further south you go the larger the dish you need.

I dont know the size of the dish.

The house is in the Pyrenees and we get the free to air channels via Sky. Sometimes there might be a interruption in broadcast but that would be down to the clouds and bad weather sometimes.

If you only want to watch the Basic Sky channels, ie: RTE, Sky One, Living, Discovery, etc, then your card will work fine in any Sky Box. Its only the Premium Channels (Movies and Sports) that won't work on the card if its not paired to the box.

hi, we have a house in Spain and are there for as few months a year.We have two Sky+ boxes and subscribe to a full package,sky sports, ect.Could we use the same card for both boxes or is it possible to get another card to save us carrying the one box two and fro to Spain,or would we have to pay double the package.

you would have to pay double BUT if you like you could ring sky each time you go to spain and get card paired with the box in spain and then when you come back get it paired back, you could say box is playing up and u have a spare, but when they pair it can work immediately so you would lose channels immediately, ideally ring from spain but have both box details as per the services menu, take a pic with digital camera.
