03 Nissan Primera

A sibling of mine purchased an 03 Nissan Primera about 8 months ago. She got a 3 month guarantee even though I was pushing for a 6 month one.

She rang me yesterday to say that the car was in the garage with gearbox and other problems. She drives a total of 3 miles to work and back three days a week and the car would only see outside the county once a year! She brought it to a garage beside her workplace instead of going back to the Nissan one!

This could cost her money, money which she doesn't have...down to a 3 day week and stamps now cut off (another sad story). In any case, anybody in the know out there regarding her statutory rights?

    Thanks for any tips.

None, even if she got a 6 month warranty it would be out by now. A reconditioned gearbox, I would guess, cost around €600 fitted.

She has no rights, any warranty has long since expired. It might be worth contacting the garage she bought it from and see if they would extend a gesture of good faith. I seriously doubt they will cover the full cost but they might off free or reduced rate on the labour.

I know somebody who did this recently with a flywheel 06 mondeo. He had to pay for the parts but the garage gave him the labour for free, but he was only 2 months out of warranty not 5.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I will get her to go back to the garage to see if they will do the good faith thing.

Which reminded me that we had a problem with an Avensis gearbox some years back on a second hand car we bought. Warranty had run out and the garage (Toyota) said that we would have to foot the whole bill over €1,000. However, we have been dealing with this garage for a long time and they rang Toyota Dublin and after some negotiation, they footed the bill for the lot! This Toyota garage still have our business!
