    I like thousands of other properties have a grass margin of land outside their house approx 2ft by 18ft. AFAIK the Co Council own it and so they should be responsable for it, to cut the grass etc. But Ive been told that it is my responsibility....is this correct?

    If the council decide in the morning the want to widen the road they will do what they like with it. If you are waiting for them to come and landscape it for your benifit, dream on! Most people maintain it to make make their own property look a bit better and the council won't bother you unless they want it.

    I agree with you but considering that I dont own a lawnmower, why should I cut it. If the street light wasnt working should I have to fix it? Ive asked for them to fill the margin in with cement or something.

    I've seen on a lot of building site's i worked on that the water and gas pipe's are run under that strip. Then if work has to be done in the future hopefully all they have to do is dig up this grass verge instead of outside someones front gate.

    Meant to add in to the op, the above is why they probably won't concrete the area.

    Yes, that's normal.

    So legally if someone trips or falls on the grass margin Im liable? There is an Eircom manhole on the grass margin so whos boundries does that fall under?

    You are responsible for it's maintenance (cutting the grass, etc), but you are not liable for the space. If you don't maintain the grass and someone has an accident due to it's upkeep then that could be a different issue.

    Eircom are responsible for the Eircom manhole.

    Most people see the grass verge as part of the garden, and thus will just pour concrete there if they like...

    So it suits the County Council for me to cut the grass.....Ive requested a copy of the bye-law as to where its my responsability. A friend brought up a very good point, lets say I cut the grass and a stone hits the blade an hits a windscreen or worse someone where does law stand there.
    Ive asked about covering it with cement and was told Id have to apply for permission hence its a catch 22.

    Did they say what they'd do if you covered it with cement anyway?

    FFS, have a bit of community pride, buy a €50 push mower and cut the grass.

    You are starting to remind me of my girlfriends neighbours who leave their crap all over there front garden and expect the council to pick up their overflowing bin when it gets knocked over.

    This type of nanny-state, not-my-job, someone-else-should-do-it-for me attitude is far too common.

    As to you being liable for a chipped windscreen, you have more chance of being struck by lightning wjile cashing in a winning Euromillions ticket.

    :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

    If you live in North Dublin just don't cut the grass and when anyone complains say it's for biodiversity; that's the councils response for not cutting green areas anyway
