Am I the only humanist around?

Am I the only humanist around?

"the only humanist in the village..."

There were a couple of threads in relation to the new humanism.ie website in the past week. We do have a few Humanists popping about, but we have many who would consider themselves humanist by nature without officially calling themselves a Humanist.

I'm afraid you are somewhat misguided my son. While on the surface they may consider themselves humanists, deep down inside their very hearts they know they are Catholics who have just gone a little astray. If only they would open their hearts to the Lord.

Forums are made when there is sufficient demand for them. You don't build a major roadway out to every single little village in the country. That's not to say those villages are crap or not worth visiting, just that there is insufficient traffic to warrant one.

If you want to make a trip to Humanism-Town you'll have to take the A&A motorway most of the distance and then potter along the windy country roads for the rest of it. You could get a boat to Philosophy-Port, or I think there is a train station at ISS-ville.

    I like metaphors.

I'm sorry but I am in no way catholic . And I just feel a lot of people are misguided about what it means to be humanist

What do you want to talk about in a Humanism forum that you can't talk about here or in, say, Humanities?

Nothing I was just curious where the other humanists hang out

Like anyone else I guess they hang out where subjects that interest them are discussed.

I'm sure there are humanists among us. I used to think of myself as one before I lost my faith in humanity. ;)

    You a humanist ?

In the sense that I have an irrational faith in the good of humans? Of course. Alas, I don't think I'm cool though.

In the sense that you know better than to believe that Humanists are just Religious Hippies

Unless you don't know what it means to be a humanist and just wanna call yourself one because it sounds cool like a lot of Wiccans out there

Although I am not into humanism, apparently a little light reading by Anton Lavey would not go astray for some people who have the definition of humanism all wrong.
