    Hi folks,

I'm currently doing a bit of research on alternative fuel cars and thought I would seek your expert opinions as many of you either work or are connected to the motor industry.

Electric powered cars are all the hype at the moment but some seem to think that these will be replaced by Hydrogen or bio fuels.

I would be interested to establish where you think the industry is heading and if electric cars are indeed the answer or will they be replaced by a more efficient alternative.

Tis hard to get more efficient than a pure electric car. batteries might get replaced by capacitors likethis one: http://www.technologyreview.com/computing/24265/?a=f

hydrogen certainly isn't the most efficient and is more of a torment to store and work with. at teh moment batteries are still the weak point in electric cars. battery wear will cost you around 10-15c per mile and the range getting a bit less each time you charge it

i hope internal combustion engine + manual gearbox will still stay around because even with all their advantages electric cars seem fairly boring really and a hydrogen or ethanol powered car would be nice for a taer at the weekend.

but then you have people like Eric Schmidt (the lad who owns Google) who want to make it so that mere humans aren't allowed to drive cars anymore because of safety and preventing congestion. i seriously hope those lads dont end up getting their way because if I wasn't allowed to drive anymore I'd have serious doubts about life and it being worth living
