Legislation/ laws journalists need to be aware of?

Am trying to find out what laws exist in Ireland in relation to privacy of individuals and what kind of personal information can be released publicly, either through print press or television before it can be deemed as intruding on their privacy, etc.?

I haven't ever undertaken a journalism course so sadly I have no education in this area, but in general does anyone know what legislation is vital for journalists working here to be aware of in terms of invasion of a person's privacy?

And by individual I mean both a corporate worker and one working for the state.

Is there maybe a difference between how they and ordinary people are treated in terms of privacy laws?
