What ever would the the chances of getting the best of the Super 15 and the Heineken Cup winners in a winner take all game.

They do it in Rugby League but the timing is all wrong being mid way through the English Super League season and preseason for the NRL. In all its a bit poxy

Could Union make a better fist of it???

NRL and SL start at same time, don't they?

The rugby union season is long enough as it is. No real room for such a fixture.

Not sure when the game would be played. The S14 doesn't end til July, they have a short break and start the international games almost straight away (summer tours + 3N). Just don't think there's room in the season.

To be honest I wouldn't have much time for it really. They're separate competitions with separate formats and should be left separate.

The Heineken Cup and S15 are great competitions in their own rights and adding a 'Winner Takes All' fixture at the end would dilute the hype surrounding the individual competitions.
The FIFA World Club Championships is rubbish in comparison to the Champions League, and I feel any World Club Rugby Final would have a similar comparison to the Heineken Cup or S15.

brive who were the then heineken cup champions played the auckland blues who were the reigning super 12 champions in 1997.

the heineken cup final was at the end of jan. the blues were on a pre season tour of europe before the 1997 season of super 12 started.

the game was played in the middle of feb and the blues won 47 to 11.

not a lot of people know this.

as it stands and others have mentioned the seasons just dont match up at the moment. considering that this years super xv final isnt for another few weeks, while leinster played there last game 3 weeks or so ago.

in non world cup years the super xv will start 3 weeks later and so end at the start of august, i think.
