Intermittent whistling noise!!!!

    Skoda Octavia 1.9tdi 2003
Have an intermittent whistling noise from my engine. Sounds like a dull rapid screech type whistle.
It happens most commonly when i'm in 4th or 5th gear and the revs are climbing between 1000 and 2500.
Thought it was the turbo but its too loud a noise and the whistling is too screechy.
Could it be the turbo valve dumping?
The noise doesn't sound too bad if you know what i mean and seems to stop at higher speeds but the engine could be drowning out the sound.
Anybody got any ideas or similar problems?:)

Does it happen often in the wet? Dodgy belts can screech a lot when its wet. Thats one thing.
Another I suppose is a slit intercooler pipe, that would be more frequent though. Are you down on power a bit?

    Not wet at the mo!
    No power loss!
Could be a belt i suppose. heard on briskoda it could be excess pressure being exhausted through the turbo wastegate as the revs drop!

but the revs are rising as well!

Pin hole/slit in an intercooler pipe will cause a screech.

You may not notice a drop in power. I was leaking boost in my VAG engine and could hear the leak but didn't notice any major drop in power

sometimes the o ring seal goes on the pipe - intercooler joint.
