Dentist-Crown and filling price-what do you think?

    Hi everone,

My dentist quoted me €530 each tooth for a cerac inlay (porceline filling) (Take out the silver replace with these. Silver ones coming loose)

€1,300 for a crown and €400 for the core. (Front tooth)

€388 for in office bleaching (1 hour) plus maintenance trays.

I have no idea of the price of dental treatment as I have had a medical card up until now so i've been living in never never land!

I understand the the white fillings are the best type of ones you can get. Also, i'd say they are pricey because the dentist is quite sophisticated in terms of technology and I wouldn't need a temporary crown, all the work would be done on the day.

    I'd love your views...i'm a bit confused :)

Two years ago my mother was quoted €800 for a crown for a tooth at the back of her mouth.

If you want, I can Pm you the dentist details. He is in Mullingar.

I'm going to move this to the Dental Issues forum. Please be aware that discussing pricing of dentistry abroad is not allowed, but the good folk in the forum should be able to tell you if that quote is reasonable.

OP is this a general dentist or a specialist? Am I reading it correctly that the front tooth is 1300 + 400 = 1700?

Wow, that is a lot of cash to pay out. From my little knowledge I would think that a white filling is 'best' for the front 6 teeth for cosmetic reasons.

My dentist recently told me that metal fillings are the best, he is pretty old school though, although I think I'd choose metal over cerac inlay given the price of them if it was on the molars.

Would you consider/is it possible for a veneer on the front tooth rather than forking out €1700 for the crown & the core (whatever that is, a root canal?)

Don't know if that's a reasonable price or not, if it helps, all dentists are now legally required to display a pricelist in clear view so may be worth shopping around

er, not sure what you mean by a specialist exactly- he's a general dentist but very high tech, does cerac and all that.

The white fillings are for the back teeth.

The crown is the front. i'm not exactly sure what the 'core' is!!!! Something to do with the inside of the crown...

A specialist prosthodontist will command a higher price due extra training etc...
The core is the build up of the tooth prior to the crown preparation- essentially it is a filling, it may be a post and core type if the tooth was previously root canal treated.
Sounds expensive to me but I don't do that work myself- anyone else?? Fitz??

Sounds on the expensive side IMHO but if the quality is excellent then if may be worth it.

I think a dentist out there needs some patients to pay for his €60,000 Cerec machine!
Did you ask why you need porcelain inlays and not direct composite fillings if he doesn't feel amalgam will do?

Try €120000 and that's cheaper for the cerecs than crowns would be and cheaper than I did cerecs for when I was doing them. Bit pricey for the front tooth even if it is emax with stains. That can take 3 hours or more sometimes if its a fiddly one. And the core is a bit pricey. There's one person I know that might charge that in Ireland for cerec work and it's worth it, he makes it look pretty much perfect. He teaches other dentists how to use cerec.

lol Big G-thats the very man! I cant fault any work he has done for me, he is class I just know i cant afford him! I might just get normal white fillings (they cost around 90e) for them i think somewhere else and save for this dude to do the crown. You cant put a price on perfection!!!! :)
