    Hi

My 07 Renault grand scenic failed its NCT with a worn inner tie rod. It has 68k kilometers on the clock.

Was a bit surprised it failed to be honest. Does anyone have an opinion on whether this is a common problem on a car of this age / mileage.

Also our local garage is quoting € 270 to replace one inner tie rod including tracking. Does this seem a reasonable price.

    Many thanks

I had same with a BMW 5 series. Cost around 330 from an Indy

Had both replaced on the Megane a 2 years ago for less than that, and that was a Renault main dealer and included tracking. They're known to wear quickly but 68k km its a bit early, mine lasted until 120k km before giving trouble.

Renaults eat through these. Seems very expensive, I'd buy the part and get an indy to fit it and get it tracked at a tyre centre if you want a cheap job.

    You are being screwed!!!!!

05 Megane failed nct for one worn inner tie rod a couple of weeks back, decided to replace both...picked up two at a local motor factors, €15 each and a local tyre fitter replaced them for me and realigned the wheels for €70.....€100 in total...it's an easy enough job to replace them. Another place quoated me €145 to replace one, shop around.

€270 for one inner tie rod is crazy.

It is normal for the Renaults to have worn inner tie rods and almost any mileage.

Daylight robbery. Thats unbelievably expensive. Its not a difficult job at all and the parts themselves are relatively cheap.

Are you sure that price is right? I quoted a little more than this to supply and fit two inner tie rods to an EVO today

    Thanks for all your replies.

It does indeed sound like i was about to be ripped off. Have managed to get both sides done and tracked for € 160 inc vat.

Thanks again. Just goes to show the benefits of a good forum.
