Just saw it on Wikipedia that they are ex-Iberia planes to come into service next March. No source there either though.

Hmm strange, there's been no announcement.

Thats certainly news to me. My dad works at Aer Lingus, and there has been nothing mentioned about that.

The airline originally planned to acquire some A319's back in 2001 I think, but due to the Sept 11 attacks and the global downturn, this didn't happen.
The EI 319 frames were sold on to BA, I think..

I read this on another site and it was quoted from Irish Air Letter! I think!

It's true. My source in EI said so. ;)

He presumed it was already general knowledge. I never even heard a whisper about it myself.

Ya there wasent a word about them!
Any idea where they will be based? What routes? Id imagine some Cork routes along with one or two Dublin Routes would be better suited to the A319!
I would have to prefered to the the Ejets at Aer Lingus but i suppose the A319 is less costly to introduce to the fleet!
I persume from a pilots/maintenance perspective its the same as the A320! But it will carry less cabin crew so i persume cabin crew will have to do some training on A319 SOPs/SEPs ??

That's a lot of questions which you pretty much answered for yourself anyway :D

Interesting to see what happens alright

The tail letters given on the Wikipedia for them weren't on the IAA register last time it was published anyway; would they have registered them in Ireland already?

A319's for EI have been mooted for quite some time. It was mentioned in the 2010 full year results. The CEO had on several occasions stated that with a smaller a/c EI could serve some cities twice daily rather than once daily. (This is a better option for biz travellers. I am told that GVA and ZRH have been mentioned in staff briefings) The Irish Air Letter is usually spot on so if it says so then I would believe it.

With several airlines worldwide downsizing and/or folding I am sure EI will get a good price from the leasor. (Mexicana had quite a few A319's?)

In terms of A/C type, yes the E-Jets may be a better fir but they cost more to integrate to the existing fleet. The A319 is a shrink of the A320 so the cabin crew licence covers all versions, while I am led to believe that the flight crew will have a very short A319 SOP course.

In fact this could end up with EI having a sub-fleet of E-jets or C-series in a few years time. (Look at Jetblue with their mix of A320 and E190) The Aer Lingus Regional product has been very successful if the EI statements are anything to go by. Maybe EI could operate E-Jets/C Series themselves under the Regional brand.

The 3 ex Iberia 319s are due to enter service March 2012 and being received by AerLingus in January. The 1st one is painted in Aer Lingus colours (ex EC-KEV), the registrations of the 3 319s will be,
    EI-EPU
    EI-EPS
    EI-EPT
According to Irish Air Letter, the 1st 319 will be arriving in Dublin end of June and will be stored until Aer Lingus received it. This plane apparently was noted in Madrid as EI-EPR recently.

Saw this on Pprune from EI-BUD

St. Urogallo would be a nice name for the EI A319 :P
