Is there anywhere to get real time updates on this?

I know we had 5 out of 5 up to Saturday but have not heard anything since?

Disappointing day for the Irish lads,

only 2 left standing, Joe Ward and Ray Moylette both guaranteed at least bronze medals.

John Joe Nevin was absolutely robbed-he was brilliant, out-classing the Russian-it was crazy.

AIBA are showing the semi-finals live on their youtube channel today:

Yeah it was a disgrace what happened to John Joe, also Willie looked to have got the better of his opponent. Unfortunately politics plays a massive part in amateur boxing.

Brillant performance by young Moylette, hopefully Joe can do the same.

Haha unreal day for the lads!

Ward is a monster of a prospect, has potential to be the best we have ever produced.

Technically he is superb and looks so relaxed and versatile for a young lad.

Fair play to Ray aswell, its amazing that our European Light Welter champ didn't even make the national final. amazing strength in depth.

    The Russian beat Ward IMO.

    The Russian beat Ward IMO.

the russian was aggressive, but anyone who watched the fight could see Ward landed the cleaner punches by a distance.

Ivanov threw alot but he just couldn't breach Joe's defence, which was superb.

Amazing stuff alright but would have to disagree with the above. GAA players are amatuer too!

I disagree, and I usually don't favour aggressive fighters. The Russian landed more. I'd like to watch it again.

id have to disagree with ya Gene, I was actually surprised at his lack of variety, most of his shots were landing on joes elbows or gloves, he didnt seem to have the ability to mix it up
his defence was a bit leaky aswell, although he looked vastly physically stronger which is understandable really given the age difference and experience.

Well, the lads compete on a global scale where the comp is so so competitive. GAA is a national level sport only. Someone post a vid of the fights?

We'll have to agree to disagree! :D

I thought he got through more than Joe, and bullied Joe around the ring, and hurt Joe. This is fine if Joe is countering him freely, he got a few in, but not enough IMO.

But you won't change my mind and I won't change yours! :pac:

I was watching it with some folk who thought the very same as yourself, but it seemed that nearly whatever Joe threw he landed flush. Ivanov caught Joe with one hook that did seem to rattle him but he recovered well.

He kept a decent guard up and picked him off at will, especially in the latter stages of the first round and throughout the second round.

Broke 2 bones in his hands slipping in the ice in winter. Would have missed the finals but had to box because being part of the high prefromance squad.

Great day for the lads! Wards a beast.

Excellent stuff indeed. Congratulations to the people who have been involved for a long time in the Irish amateur boxing set-up too. It's another day for them to cherish as well.

I can't wait to see how these two lads do in the future.

no chance for him now after wards showing

Wouldn't write Egan off just yet. He'll have his homework done and Ward and give him a good scrape should they meet.
