I have submitted Irish Citizenship application 2 weeks ago,
Does anyone know how soon I should get first reply acknowledge of my application to let me know if the application is received or not?
Anyone knows if I should contact the department again to make sure if they received it or not?

Give it anything up to 8 weeks to get acknowledged. THey will issue you with an acknowledgement letting you know the current timeframes for decision. I wouldn't bother contacting the Department until that time has elapsed.

Apparently the time for processing is being vastly decreased in the very near future. A guaranteed six months as opposed to a timeframe of 2 and a half years.

When my husband applied he got an acknowledgement letter very quickly, I'd say after about a week or 10 days. Haven't heard anything since though!

A friend got his acknowledgement within 2 days but they didn't state the average waiting time for his application.

Just called the Citizenship Applications office in Tipperary Town. They can be reached at 06232500 or 1890252854. It took 20 mins of continuous redialling and another 15 minutes of waiting on the phone before someone could talk to me. I'm not complaining, but I would recommend using a speakerphone and one that has automatic redialling capability.

On 23 June 2011, they're processing applications received on 17th May 2011. This is purely for preliminary checks to see if the application is valid or not.

I submitted my application on 22nd of May, so I'll expect to hear back from them at the end of June/1st week of July.

Good news, as someone posted earlier... major changes coming around.
    http://inis.gov.ie/en/JELR/Pages/PR11000088

    - Application times to take no longer than 6 months.
    - They're processed more applications in the last 3 months than they did in all of 2010....

So, kudos to Justice Minister Alan Shatter to bring this about...! :-)

I hope someone sees this soon.

I have been given a date to go to the court (13 July) in which I will make my oath to the country (yipee). But I have no idea what happens there.

Will I need to bring the money there and will I get a certificate on the spot, or will I need to do this by post later?

The letter only asks me to bring a form and ID.

Have any of you gone through this process?

I received first reply today, it still tells 26 months is the processing time, I wonder if 6 months processing time does not cover all the cases? Or the 6 months process proposal is not executed yet? Does anyone know about it?

No, you send in the money and you get the certificate later.

Far from executed. I dealt with someone last week who's hitting the three year mark this month, which is not at all unusual. I really wonder about this so-called 26 month average.

    Hi all ,

I have applied for citizenship on January 2008 and i am still waiting for an answer or a decision .I have contact them in 2 occasions by registred post asking about the statute of my application and all what they replied is " it's on going ...etc " Many of the people i know that have applied almost the same period have got their passports now . I have been working all the time , paying my taxes ,never asked for social walfar , no issues at all with the low, very clean record but there you go , i feel like my application is just been ignored .
I heard the process time now is much quicker which is a good thing but why it's not applied on old applications ?
Any idea guys what should i do here ?
I never tried to call them as i think that wouldn't change anything on the process time and they don't give you any information .

Would you have any advise .

    Thank you

You should call them. You will get a better answer when you speak to them on the phone if you are lucky. As per writing to them, there is only one and the same reply, which is your application is being processed in the normal way and blah blah blah:(

My husband applied in April 2010 and got confirmation in yesterday's post that his ceremony will be in a couple of weeks time. We were expecting another 12-18 month wait, so the new policy of max 6 months wait is definitely speeding everything up.

I would ring them and annoy them until you get a definite answer. You might even consider re-applying, since you might get processed within 6 months which could be quicker than waiting for the 2008 application to be assessed. (I'm not sure if you're allowed to do this, you should check first.)

That's great to hear that it wasn't too long for you. Congratulations to your husband! Hopefully it's a sign of things to come.

    hi everyone,

I need your kind advice regarding my application for naturalization which I have submited on 20 September 2011 and I am still waiting for acknowledgement of my application.
Does anyone know how long it will take to get an acknowledge from the Citizenship office

    Regards

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25 poppster

    Hi Shary

I applied towards the end of May, and only got confirmation from them towards the end of August. So, your letter might come mid-December/early Jan.

It might be worthwhile giving them a call [you may have to redial continuously for 15-20 mins, and then hold the line for another 15-20 mins]. However, they will be able to tell you the dates of applications for which they are carrying out preliminary checks.

You do understand what an average is right? :D

My wife is american, we've been married 18 months, so she won't be elligible to apply until around january 2014. Hopefully by then, the processing time/backlog will have reduced to only take 6-12 months, rather than 24-36 months. But I won't hold my breath

Got a response from the department in the positive... woohooo!

So, time between application and receiving final response in the positive was approximately 11 months.

Delighted about it... I'll be at the August 30th Ceremony in Dublin.

Wish you all the best for those still awaiting replies, and I hope they come true for you.

Great news, and welcome as a new citizen of Ireland. Best of luck with your new status.
