Booking in to French campsites

    Hi folks,

Im preparing to embark on a cycling holiday through the Normandy region in France, just wondering do I need to book campsites before we leave? We have identified some sites to stay in but because of the nature of the holiday, we are not sure if we will stay in these or just call it a day once we get tired.

A French girl I know from the region told me I may need to book as it is in July and the French tend to holiday in that region so it will be busy. We dont fancy stealth camping either as it might prove dangerous.

Is her advice sound or can we generally just pull in at a campiste as we please, pay our money and pitch up there, or is booking essential?

    Thanks.

id go with your friends advice as french campsites are extremely busy during the summer!! I REALLY wouldnt advise stealth camping what-so-ever as your in a foreign country, general common sense. The managers are always very helpful. Maybe you could book your first campsite and then book ahead as you go along?
