    Hi there,

I'm trying to find out what driver a certain piece of hardware is using on Win XP. I can find the hardware in device manager etc. and rollback the driver, up date it, etc. but it doesn't actually tell me what driver its using and i cant find out how its been installed.

Is there any way of doing this on Win XP?

Once you've found the hardware in device manager, right click on it and select properties. Another window will come up with different tabs accros the top. Select the driver tab and it will show you the driver info (date. manufacture etc)

To extend to what Tommy said look under the info tab for "Hardware ID", google that string and it may help with the search

To get drivers this is the best site for updates and missing drivers.

Folks, is there anyway to find out what drivers are used by an application?

The reason i ask is because i still cant find the driver being used.

Two machines (exactly the same) are being used to test, both with the exactly the same build. There is an application installed (exact same) and the hardware is attached to machine A and i can then identify what appears in Device Manager and thus the drivers it uses. I copy those drivers to machine B and it doesn't work.

I launch the application that uses the hardware on machine A and it works fine, i launch it on machine B and it doesn't work.

I need to find out what driver the application is using and then replicate that.

When you're in Device manager, at the top click the "View" dropdown and select "Show hidden devices".

You should now see in the list "Non- plug and play Drivers", expend that and see if the driver you're looking for is in there.

In windows xp, you have to install all drivers using device manager, just copying folder from 1 pc to pc2 doesnt work.you could write down all the devices in pc 1 ,then compare to pc2, see whats missing ,ignore basic devices, like mouse, monitor, dvdrom devices.in device manager there should be a yellow icon to indicate ,device driver not loaded,or this device is not working normally,or unknown device present.
