Pakistan artillery firing on US Marines?

Robert Fox , who writes for the London Evening Standard, gave an interesting RTE Radio One interview yesterday on the Marian Finucane show, where he describes how Karzai is negotiating with Taliban and the disconnect between American and British feelers towards the Tban. One of the areas he visited was the north-east, where he said Haqqani Taliban militia were fighting US marines, and “sometimes they call in Pakistani artillery”.

You can find the podcast here:feed://www.rte.ie/radio1/podcast/podcast_marianfinucane.xml

My question to anyone who knows:

Is the claim about Pak artillery support against US marines (a) accurate/true?
If so, (b) what type or artillery are we talking about...Pak Mortars? Long range guns? Rockets?

Pakistani-provided artillery, or pakistani-manned artillery? The latter I would think unlike, at least if we're talking about current military servicemen doing the manning.

It must be Artillery manned by Pakistani insurgents, because if this guy knew about it the Americans have certainly known much longer and they wouldn't just let this happened.

I think from what he said in the interview he meant Pak Army artillery....not merely gear loaned or provided by the ISI or Pak Army......that wouldn't really raise an eyelid at this stage....but if actual Pak army units are firing on US forces after been called in from Tban FOs...then that would be news.....US would have good SIGINT penetration of both Tban and Pak radio networks so they should know...it could be a case of deployed Pak army units doing fake 'collateral' and then saying 'oh sorry we were aiming at Pak Tban...'.....but the claim he made sounds a bit incredible....that is why I posted it to see if anyone really knew.

I have heard of ANP and ANA boarder posts coming under attack by talaban and some times the Paks joining in with supporting artillery fire. But weather they would open up on marines or americans in general i wouldn't know and its the first i have heard of it. But it could well be true and i wouldn't be all that surprised. As for the weapons it would have to be mortars i don't think they could hid big long rang guns near the border with out really standing out. But then again thats just what i think. you never know what they could be using

I'd say there was something lost in translation and he meant the US troops calling in artillery support.
