First of all can I just say that i'm sorry you have to go through chemotherapy and I wish you all the best with your treatment.

This website has many different types of hats, turbans, sleep hat designed specifically for people dealing with hair loss from chemotherapy. http://www.bluerosewaterford.com

my neighbor shaved his head and looks fine, when outside in the cold he wears a cap and still looks good. Think of the benefits of the treatment and stay positive - good health to you!

You should take a browse through the Facial Hair and Hats forum. :)

Not sure of gender but going with the assumption of male.
There is a hat shop in St.Stevens Green that does cheap(ish) throwaway hats - something you can wear for a few weeks and then disgard without guilt.

Lots of the highstreet shops (Topman, RiverIsland et al) are selling 'fashionable' trilbies.

Arnotts, Clearies and Marks & Spencers have a range of more mature (i.e. less fashionable but better quality) hats inncluding panamas (woven reed hats) ideal for the summer.

If you are a complete and utter hat freak and want something with a little panache then go to John Shevlin and have one made if you don't find one to fit off the shelf. VERY reasonable price and beautifully made hats for men and women.

So, if you fancy a panama, a trilby, a fedora, a porkpie, a bowler, a topper, a flat cap, a pith or even a fez there are all out there just waiting for you.

On the chemo side of thing, good luck and keep your head up. Maintaining a positive mental attitude is immeasurably helpful.
And when all is said and done bald is beautiful. Wear suncream. :)

Are you a guy? If you're a guy I say just shave your head and leave it natural!I love a bald man personally.

After a quick google it seems that the standard chemo headgear for men is just any old hat.

For Summer, a nice straw Panama hat would be great, you won't roast like you would in a wool hat and it'll keep the sun off your face.

    Good luck :D

Best of luck with the treatment.

When my friend was going through chemo he shaved his head and wore baseball caps if he was cold.

To be honest he looked better bald than he now does with hair!

It might be worth giving these guys a buzz, they were so helpful when my uncle had cancer (to the point where he ended up volunteering with them when he was better) and their strengths are in practical advice coming from people who have been through cancer/chemo/radiation therapy etc. I'd say they'd definitely be able to point you in the direction of good ideas for headgear or anything else you need advice on

    +1

Another group that you may find interesting are CanTeen who work with younger people - 12 to 25 year olds - one of the funnest groups of people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. They will point you towards a bandana (and probably a pirate eye patch to go with it). They were the people who first introduced me to the concept of eyewigs for those that end up with total alopeica post chemo.

I like to see guys with bald heads, something very sexy and rugged about it, especially if it suits them. So I'd be another to advocate shaving it and using plenty of sunscreen.

Just a quick aside though-my sister went through extremely aggressive Chemo recently for a rare form of Cancer and didn't lose any hair, it affects everyone in different ways, you may not necessarily loose any hair during treatment, so wait and see before making any major decisions about your hair.

    Best of luck xx

I reckon go for hats over bandanas anyway. They just look better. I have to agree with the other posters about shaving your head though, it looks great on some people. I love a bald man :)

If you don't think bald suits you, you should just head into town to the sorts of shops you like (the ones you get your clothes out of). Most shops have a good selection of hats and stuff. You could start trying on loads of different types to see what suits you before you feel that you need to wear one. Find what makes you feel comfortable.

I wish you well in your treatment and recovery x
