To be brutally honest, I don`t like Judges. I see them as a bunch of overpaid, under-worked, pompous, sanctimonious, self righteous, wig wearing, obnoxious, stuck up wasters. That said, I do retain certain concerns when it comes to handing powers of control over judges pay to the political classes. This concern is compounded when taken in tandem with the likely abolition of the Seanad during the term of the present Government. Lest I be misunderstood, I do not esteem our senators any more than I do our judges but in times of crises any Government could potentially become despotic without safeguards keep them in check. These matters of Judge`s pay and Seanad reform/abolition should be handled very carefully. My own view, is that Judges, Senators and TDs should be deemed to have chosen vocational careers and an independent group of foreigners living abroad should be nominated by a foreign based private company to adjudicate on matters concerning their pay and ethical competency. Comments and views welcome.
