I heard about this last year, but missed the deadline and so was looking around for a bit of info on how it was going to work this year when I came across last year's thread which is now locked, so am thinking it's time for a new one considering the voting opens in three days!

As far as I can tell, the main difference between this and last year's events is that the organisers are looking for a representative from each of the 26 counties (not the north strangely) instead of just four, though I'm open to correction on that. Everybody who wants to take part must canvas for votes (and give loads of free advertising to Sp*r) with the highest vote-getters going through to another stage of the selection process. Each selected participant will represent his/ her county in the Dublin City Marathon this October, with the best placed finisher winning a holiday to New York to see its marathon as a spectator.

The sign-up page has a spot for entrants to put in the URL for youtube videos as part of their applications.....which has me thinking I should have done but didn't. I'm wondering how anybody who took part last year went about getting votes. Was it just a matter of pestering friends on facebook or did some people organise big campaigns? And also, for anybody who took part in the initial stages but didn't get through, did the experience help your overall fitness levels more permanently?
