has anyone heard of this scheme being rolled out?

My girlfriends friend mentioned about these "pay as you use" gas meters being installed for free.

Basicly you put money on a card and then you put the card into the meter and you get your gas supply this way.

When you run out of money or credit on the card, the gas stops.

Supposedly alot of landlords are getting them installed in rental houses now.

Has anyone heard of such a meter and if so where would you get 1 from and installed?

    Thanks.:)

They are being rolled out to problem accounts...ie accounts that have difficulity paying and the likes.

What happens is if you owe say 600 euro to the gas you buy 10 euro credit. 7.50 is gas and 2.50 is deducted from your card by the smart meter that way you still have gas and the gas company is being paid.

Generally speaking landlords do not have gas accounts in there name because if the customer runs off its the landlord liable for the account.

Additionally if the customer does have trouble then the gas company will not speak to them because the meter is the landlords.

I do a bit of vol work in the community i am very aware of this scheme.
