SAAB 9-3 2005 Headlight problem

As the title says I have a SAAB 9-3 2005 headlight problem. Drivers side low beam bulb went last week, bought replacement bulb, fitted it this morning and nothing. Swapped bulb with passenger side and it works fine so there was no need for an actual replacement. Checked headlight fuse and relay by switching with existing fuse and relay and still no joy. Anyone any ideas as to cause and possible fix?

    Dinging.

Have you checked the wiring with a multimeter, or if there's damage to the loom behind the headlight?

I had a similar problem with my 2000 9-5. Might be different for your car. There's an orange relay in the fuse box under the bonnet that controls all the headlights. Have a look to see if there's one there because it gives trouble but can be fixed. If you pop the cover off the relay, you'll see a row of soldered joints on the circuit board and these joints crack. You'll need good eyes or a magnifying glass to spot the cracks but re-solder any cracks you spot and the relay is as good as new.
