So our clubs Captains prize is coming in the coming weeks.
Ours is played over 36 holes, 18 holes one sunday and 18 a week later.
So I was wondering if I was to break Standard scratch on the first Sunday and played in a couple of open days in the week would I have to cut myself going into the open day comps and would this affect my handicap for the second round of Captains?

No, handicap remains for the duration of the competition

    I like the positive thoughts...
f22, how about the open comps part of the question? Would he have to self-cut if playing a different competition in between R1 & R2 of the captain's?

Yes you would have to cut yourself for any comps you play in between. The no cut is for the captains only.

Note that this depends on the competition, the ladies in our club cut between both rounds (Its stableford so they are trying to protect against bandits winning by shooting a 44 on day 1 and then just punting it around on day 2)

Quote from R&A site: "When a competition is played on the basis of handicap, it is a matter for the Committee to specify the handicap allowance for the form of play being used".
Your club committee is responsible for making decisions on competition formats / rules (within the rules of golf & the handicapping admin body, CONGU) and for communicating this information to the members.
Unfortunately, and going on posts on boards.ie, some committees are not well up on these issues - so nothing like a bit of feedback to get them to brush up on the rules and make them clear to everyone in the club.
    For R&A site see: http://www.randa.org/en/Rules-and-Amateur-Status/Guidance-on-Running-a-Competition.aspx?chapter=1&section=5

I broke SS during the 1st round of our Lady Captains last year. In between that and the final round my husband and I played in an Open mixed. I asked the competition organiser what the situation was regarding my handicap and was told I must play off the reduced handicap.
