    Hey,

Wondering if anyone can help or explain this to me....

I moved into a flat a couple of months ago and I've been getting free basic cable, i don't really understand how this is?

Anyway now I want to get broadband from UPC and i'm wondering will they realise I'm getting free cable and cut it off? I spoke to UPC about the broadband I want and they checked my address but didn't mention anything about a previous connection still being active?

If you have no decoder box working in the house it is then most likely you are receiving unscrambled analog channels.. Not sure how many channels your receiving but UPC are aware and this should not effect your tv channels if you get the broadband. But I think it is cheaper to get the tv and broadband compared to just getting the broadband. I could be wrong!

As I understand it, if you sign up for broadband with UPC, they charge you a "standalone charge" of €7.75 per month on top of your €25 per month (or whatever) for the broadband that you pay for.

This €7.75 is to compensate UPC for the fact that people can get free "unscrambled" TV (i.e. analogue TV) on the physical cable that also delivers the broadband. UPC have no way of disabling the analouge signal, so they just charge the €7.75 service charge instead.

So if you sign up for the 12Mb Broadband, they'll just charge you €32.75 per month (€25.00 + €7.75), and you can use the broadband and watch the analogue channels.

    Hey,

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking of getting the 12mb broadband and just adding the phone which is 6euro instead of paying the stand alone charge of 7.75. But good to know i'll still get the channels i'm getting now :)
