    Hi, I am out of the country on holidays at the moment and have a dreadful pain in my tooth, have been putting clove oil on it but can anyone give mea remedy to use till I get home? Or is it a case of just putting up with it.

    Ibuprofen or codeine are the only things that will really help the pain. Nurofen plus has both, but don't go mad on it, and don't take codeine in any form for more than two or three days.

    No magic cures unfortunitely op,
    If it is a short sharp pain brought on by hot or cold, obviously then avoid any stimulus... If there is a hole in the tooth- you can buy clove oil temporary fillings in the chemist and push it in yourself- this can help...

    If there is a constant ache waking you at night and doesn't need a stimulus to get going then only a root canal or extraction will work but the clove oil fill may help'a bit...

    If it is sore to bite on with tenderness in the jaw bone and gum with/without a swelling on the face, you have an infection and need antibiotics and treatment to prevent it getting worse.

    In the meantime, pain killers will dull the pain.
    Depending on your medical history;
    The combination of regular strength paracetamol and nurofen together with codeine will work well.
    Ie nurofen plus and paracetamol
    Or
    Solpadeine and plain nurofen
    Read the label, dont overdo the meds.
    See your dentist ASAP,

    Good luck op,
    OS

    so arrived home today and went straight to Dentist, unfortunately I have a fear of them but went adn have been advised that they will have to remove the tooth, its on my lower teeth and the 4 one in - said I could leave it free or get a bridge which would cost about €1500!! So on antibiotics for the week and another appointment next Monday, scared isn't the word to use but going to go as want to get over this fear of course the price is another issue!
