Avensis stationwagon, RAV4 or Kuga? Buying new Family Car

    Hi everyone!

Desperately seeking advice on our purchase of a brand new family car. Our old car has been driven into the ground, is not old enough for scrappage so there is no trade in.

From what we have seen we have narrowed our search to the above but would be open to other suggestions as this is a big investment. Our last car was a trajet which was a massive gas guzzler so we dont want to go there again. Also low tax and insurance are important.

I would be so very grateful for any advice as we are going to make the purchase this week.

    Thanks a million!

    Do you need 7 seats??

    Thanks for getting back...good question.

7 seats an advantage but not necessary (sounds like an interview for cars!!) but I should have mentioned that we have to be able to carry a very large musical instrument in the boot. This would affect the choice of car.

Definately dont want a hyuncai "gas guzzler" trajet!:) Been there, done that!!

    Thanks

Both are fine, but also consider the Skoda Yeti

2ltr Diesel 110bhp Ambition spec is €24k with €156 annual road tax

We took the plunge and ordered one yesterday.
    (2ltr 170hp 4x4)

They are taking our wreck of a car as a "trade in" but its on its last legs so we're happy to be rid as its all but dead.

(though the model we went for is not elidgable for government scrappage)

well if the yeti is a no go.... then the Kuga is worth checking out.
I haven't driven one but being in one they are well designed and attractive and good to drive (from the passenger seat perspective)

Why not isnt the emissions low???

@OP The Skoda Yeti has a generous boot and come with great specification.

If you're worried about a large instrument you would need to bring it with you to make sure it fits, this will narrow the selection fairly well for you. You don't mention a max budget either, but it may be worth forking out for something like a Volvo V70 if you plan on keeping it until it dies, because on of those things will be a long time dying.

Have you looked at the Hyundai IX35 or Kia Sportage. Really nice looking cars. Out of the ones you have listed i would opt for the Kuga. Others to consider would be the Tiguan/Yeti/Qashqai/X1/Q3.
