Recently for some reason I have come in contact with a lot of people who have a lazy eye, much more so than usual. Anyway, I've never really coped well with this, I never know where they are looking.and consequently, I dont know where to look and thus get flustered, particularly if it be a customer at work.

I wish I knew how to handle the situation better as i 'd hate to upset or insult any of these cock eyed folk due to my awkwardness and ignorance. Does anyone have any advice on the matter? Any relevant stories? Would love to hear from anyone with a lazy eye to get their take on it.

A start would be not to refer to them as "these cock eyed folk", its just a wee bit patronising...

"Much more so than usual", OP?

    WTF... ?

Forget it - whack them over the head with a mallet.

    Might have the reverse effect.

You mean Strabismus. Amblyopia(Lazy eye) refers to reduced visual acuity due to actual abnormalities in the optic nerve pathway. It's a brain problem, not an eye alignment problem. You could not tell I am practically blind in one eye because the eye does not "wander". That is not to say Strabismus can't lead to Amblyopia in children.

    Just clearing up this misconception:)

I have a lazy eye, and as a result of a botched operation to "straighten" it as a child it's now worse than ever, I avoid eye contact as it often spooks people. :(

Stare at their eyebrows. That's usually what I do when I am trying to pretend that I am engaging with my boss during a meeting, but really I'm just staring at those mad, weird, enormous hairy caterpillars over his eyes. It should work just as well for those with wonky eyes.

God those eyebrows are gonna be in my head all day now....
