FF7 on PS3

I downloaded FF7 from PSN and am having a little trouble setting controls. I can only control from the directional pad and am trying to switch to the analogue stick if possible.
When I push the PS button on the controller, it brings up options including for the controller. I tried switching "digital" to "analogue" but when I try to play the game, nothing moves the character around.
Anyone shed any light or can I use the analogue stick at all?

Early PS1 games often don't have analogue support - dual shock came a few years into the console's lifespan and only games developed for it supported it. You'll find it with a lot of games - on PS2, for example, you often had to switch off the analogue light to get an old PS1 game to work.

I'm guessing FF7 is one of the games above - been so long since I've played it I don't remember.

That's what I was thinking, I can't remember if I played that game on the sticks or d-pad!

Yeah it was well the D-pad era back then, i downloaded it too and played it using the D-pad. I've actually downloaded about ten PSone classics and none are analog stick if i remember correctly.

FFVII came out late 1997, the dualshock wasn't introduced until late 1997. FFVII never supported analogue controls so you are out of luck.

playing it on the psp, with the analog stick, i changed the control settings to the 4 setting, if its the same on the ps3 should be easier to control the character.
