Just wondering am I the only one experiencing this problem!!!!

Bike paid for by my employer but still no bike!!

I am now waiting almost six months for my bike. seems to be a bit chaotic with dealers...not able to keep up with demand.

    any suggestions?

Picked up my bike today, only selected it on Tuesday, paid cheque yesterday and got my bike and accessories today.

I'm based in Swords, Co Dublin

Where's the bike being bought from?

There's no reason for a 6 month delay (certainly if they did not warn you about it). It depends on your employer's scheme but I would be looking to source it from another retailer in the circumstances

Jaysus that harsh ... I got a bike on the scheme about a month ago.
Decided I was going to get a bike on a Saturday, asked work on the Monday, gave them the invoice on Tuesday and got the cheque and picked up the bike on the Wednesday! Couldnt have been easier!
(Got the bike in DB Cycles Athlone.)

so what is probably happening is that the shop was waiting for ages for payment from your employer. only then will they order a bike in for you if it needed ordering. 6months is still dreadful. they have either forgotten the order (which can happen easy) or else they are just terrible. one way or another you should contact them and maybe even tell them you want to take the money alsewhere if it doesnt come in soon. what shop is it do you mind me asking?

forgetting an order is easy to do... wouldnt you feel a valued customer! Cardinal Sin.... didnt realise bike shops had it that good to "forget" orders

i didn't say you said thats what happened either... i was just saying if that happened that be a pretty unprofessional reason for leaving the OP bike-less...

actually it be the worst excuse

Another bike to work question, don't want to start new thread...

Was looking at some bikes recently, the salesman comes up asks if he could help with anything, I asked for price on a particular bike and he asks was I buying with cash or bike to work.

This stinks to me, sounds like they will quote a higher price for bike to work. Anyone any experience of how to handle this, I would be inclined to say 'cash' to him and then kick up a stink if he refuses to honour the price for a bike to work purchase, or am I missing something?

Only guessing but maybe the retailer gets a discounted rate for the bike if there is a "middleman" company running the Cycle to Work Scheme so offers a matching discount for cash buyers?

Some companies use third parties to run the bike to work scheme for them, and they in turn charge the bike shops a commision.

So if you or your company deal with the bike shop direct you may be able to get a discount.

Edit to say - What RPL said

It is true that if there is a voucher company involved they immediately lose 10% on the bike to the middle man, which is crazy considering they do nothing and you dont even see them in the dealings..so yeah the shop will be reluctant to barter if these guys are involved.

But I am thinking that the shops are overpricing the bikes because the scheme is on. I asked for a quote on a bike when I couldn't get the B2W and they immediately took nearly 200 off it. When I went in with the B2W there wasnt much sway. It may also be that people are reluctant to ask because we think we are getting such a good deal already which is an Irish mentality I think.

I had a bike 'bought' all the paperwork ready, once I mentioned it was the cycle scheme, he added a bag worth €49to cover the % the cycle scheme take off him .... canceled the order and reported it to the cycle scheme crowd. I'm sure they are getting plenty business from the scheme(accessories and bikes!)
