Playing my first official competition tomorrow morning as a GUI handicapped member. It's a two person team open in Rathcore.

I'm just arriving for my tee hoping the club has my GUI card! Do I need the card or will my number do? Any tips would be welcome.

    Cheers

Goodluck dude, cant answer your question though :)
Got my GUI card yesterday. decided to join up Carlow GC, played my first 18 holes today, beauty of a course! Shot 101, happy enough bar a 3/4 horrible holes, weather was shocking too. Should have my handicap by the end of next week hopefully :D

Cheers lads. It's my own course so I should be ok. They should have my card by now anyway.

You don't need your GUI card for any course, your number will suffice.

If you have your number you can register on the gui website for golfnet and then check your hc also etc.

Thanks aj. Played earlier and while I was a little nervous I ended up OK.

Played a two person team event with best ball on each hole and both balls on par threes. We shot a 46 which is just ok and also considering I was off 12 and the guy I was with was off 13.

Good experience and the lads were sound and helped me calm down!

Don't worry aj I don't like me too! Im sure I'll drift out a little soon. What you playing off and what's your target?

My target is to stay at 12 till end of year.

Ah no, fair play that's a great handicap to be starting off on.

Have said that I'll wait till next year to join club/handicap etc, however am beginning to think that there's no real point waiting.
Played a few times last year (every month or so during summer)
This year, and in particular the previous two months, I've been getting some form of golf at least twice a week and thankfully the improvement is coming fast.
Broke 100 for first time last week with a 95 and I'm growing more confident that I can get in or around the 90-95 mark consistently over the next couple of months and hope to be scoring under 90 by end of year.

Might just bite the bullet and go get myself a handicap.

Ring around clubs and I'm sure you get a deal considering there is only really 4 months of golfing weather left in the year. Try join with someone else that normally helps persuade clubs to do a deal.

I'm sure you'll be in the 80's soon just keep working on that short game!!

    Good luck with it.
