Quick question, looking at trading in the car and I was wondering do garages take cars with no NCTs? Mine is a 2007 focus. The NCT is up this summer. Thanks

They will but they will use it to knock down the price they allow you against the newer car.

A 07 car is relatively new so assuming it has no issues it would be an advantage to you to get a fresh NCT on it before selling it.

Ok, didnt think of price being lowered! is it usually a lot or it just depends on the dealer themselves?

It won't make a huge difference, they'll just use it as justification for giving you a poor trade in price. If it's NCTd it won't effect the cost to change by much at all.

The NCT is €50 and an hour of your time, you are putting yourself at a disadvantage with a dealer before any trade in value negotiations take place. Any dealer worth his/her salt will obviously focus in on this to consolidate the upper hand in any price negotiations.

Did you know you can NCT the car 6 months early for its first NCT? This means you can have it tested now. Go for it and try and sell it privately. It will easily save you €1,000, perhaps more, compared with trading in your car

That is sensible advise and not that difficult as it looks

Aye the NCT bit is not difficult at all, almost all well kept '07 cars would sail through first time and that gives you an NCT till the summer of '13 for the grand sum of €50 :)

Sell it privately (that's the harder bit) at a tempting price and you'll be a buyer with hard cash in a buyers market, which will give you lots of competitive edge
