I just moved into a new house, it has a UPC hookup but has been disconnected at the box under the gutter and has a blanking device installed. I only want the basic 17 channels I used to have but can only see digital options on their website. Granted the basic package is only €24pm but I don't watch much tv and don't like digital settop boxes. Is there any legal way for me to get the old skool basic package?

    Thanks

You don't seem to be able to order analogue (or MMDS) off the new website. It is however still available. They may not allow new customers to sign up to it however. They would have a long term goal to close analogue but it won't be happening today or tommorow.

Thanks to our good old friends at the Internet Archive (www.archive.org), going back to the previous version of the UPC website which still advertised the analogue TV service at €24.50 per month. (http://web.archive.org/web/20090203062251/http://www.upc.ie/television/basictv/?). This is more expensive than the current website advertises the Digital Value pack at, €22 per month. (http://www.upc.ie/deals/made_to_measure/). So why would you pay extra to get less channels. Just order Digital Basic. If you REALLY hate STBs, just plug it out and use the analogue which is still there. There's no time like the present for getting used to having one - most people will be viewing their TV through one in the future (if not already).

If you've *any* digital package, you will get the basic analogue service.

Unless you're on UPC's Cork cable network where there is no longer any analogue service.
