I have no idea if it would work, but something like TVersity would probably be your best bet.

Edit: Just saw the bit about about streaming over the internet, I've only used TVersity on a LAN to an Xbox so I don't know if it would suit.

    you could try Orb:

    http://www.orb.com/en/orb-live/features.html

although this requires that you have your PC or laptop turned on and at home all the time, plus a tv card to hook up your sky box, and even then the streaming quality vs slingbox, well, there's up to a minutes delay for a low quality stream over wifi.

just reading over a few pages there and it seems to have moved on a fair bit from when i used it back when i had a nokia n95 and i used to stream videos from my computer (i didnt have a tv card back then so i couldnt hook up my sky box).

i have a slingbox myself and to be honest, i'd reckon there is no comparison in the quality of a slingbox stream, and the quality you get from having your sky go through a tv card, then through software...

in fact, just for shíts and giggles, i'll download orb and give it a try now and report back in a few, i already have the skyHD box hooked up to my laptop here for watching sky through WMC on the xbox.

i have a nokia X6 now but sling.com havent released an updated mobile client for symian 5th edition phones so i still watch it on my E51 instead, they do have an android app though as do orb, for your HTC Desire.

anyway, enough waffle, back in a few... :D

ok, that was pants, wouldn't even entertain orb. it detected my usb hybrid tv tuner card, a hauppauge WinTV HVR-900H, but i got errors when i tried to select the inputs, because it's a hybrid card i could either tune in DIGITAL or ANALOG signal, but when i tried to select s-video on the analog signal it threw up errors, same when i tried to tune in the channels on the digital input.

it seems this is a known issue with orb, but even the registry fixes didnt work, usb stick from one of the world's best known manufacturers which cost me €70 last year and works fine for WMC doesnt work basically, is not compatible with orb.

so ok, that rules out viewing sky (or any kind of tv for that matter), so i decided to try stream a video. i configured the ports on my router so orb would stream directly to my mobile device, rather than going through orb's servers where it might have been slowed down further.

honestly i needn't have bothered, still the same buffering and stuttering, even when i tried it from another laptop i have here. so i didnt even waste time trying it over a 3G connection.

my best advice to you would be to save up for a new slingbox, because any of these software based streamers will only end up causing you a hell of a lot of headaches and will never be anything close to being on a par with a hardware based streamer like the slingbox...

seen this on CNET today, not sure if it's what you're looking for. says it can be used for streaming to mobile devices, but nothing on getting from sky to PC though...$29 for the premium version
