on upc only because where i live i cant get a proper signal, had one of the sky guys out to the door during the week.
told him all about having sky out 3 previous times over maybe a 3 year span, these last 3 years just gone, and how they could never get a signal.
after me showing him what i was talking about and what was in the way blocking the signal he swore blind that because of a new super dish they would 100% definitely get a signal, he didnt actually say super dish.

i ordered and am hoping hes being honest but i have a gut feeling hes talking rubbish tbh and the guy installing will come out and say the same thing about not getting a signal.

obviously no one can make a judgement but anyone know whether the guy was being genuine about the new stronger signal dish's?

You were being fed crap by an idiot.
Why he bothered I don't know. He won't get paid for the 'sale' unless it is installed and the card activated.
There is no new 'Super ' dish.
A larger than standard dish may help slightly, , but you need a clear line of sight to the satellite.
A good competent independent installer would be able to advise you if there is anywhere on your property that a signal could be received.
If 3 installers could not get a signal , it don't look good, but if they were all sky direct contractors they may not have had the time, knowledge or inclination to do any non- standard installation.
    Try www.isaa.tv.

he didnt actually say super dish but made it sound so, like it could get a signal through a wall, or if tilted slightly.
i was adamant that the dish could only go in one area and even though that area is the same area where the previous attempts failed he assured me the new dish's are capable.
sky are aware of where they are sending their sellers, they would have known of the problems so basically wouldnt have sent sellers to where i live without being confident, he said.

but ye i ordered pretty much knowing they wont get a signal but hoping maybe they will.

Does this problem happen for many people? Is it the same as the astra 2 satellite?

I ask because my friend installed my fta and it is in the most unlikely place yet works perfectly. It seems its pointing at the 2 story house behind mine and only 8ft off the ground.

get someone who knows what they are doing and has patience possibly and it might work.

the satellite is NOT where the Dish actually points!!!
Depending on location is is actually at an elevation of 20-30 degrees ..(the lower as you go North.... here in the S of France it is 35 degrees....)
so the dish may look as if it is pointed at an obstruction but in fact the signal is coming in over it!!!

Just been talking to one of those sky salesmen in the local shopping center and he was talking about the the lbs? which makes the signal strength much stronger.
Basically saying the same as the guy that was out with me, it won't be a problem.
Hoping but the pessimist in me says I'll be disappointed.

Lnb won't make a difference if the dish cant's 'see' the satellite however a decent installer may be able to find a way to do it.An independent can usually spend more time on the install if it's a non standard job.I've seen dishes placed in unusual places in order to get signals so it's not always just a matter of bolt it to a wall and away you go.
If you google line of sight for satellite or avoiding obstructions it will give you a good idea of what to expect.Trees growing in the way are the main problem-people tend to forget that trees get taller and dishes stay static.

    dishpointer.com

find your property and use 28.2E astra 2d for the satellite

that should give you a good idea of where the dish will be pointed.

so basically the 3 blocks in the middle of the picture, im in the one to the left, the middle block did block the signal on the last 3 visits from sky.
as i said, sky guy saw where i was talking about, i showed him the only spot the dish could go in and he swore 100% a signal would be got.

Well with the aid of google maps, dishpointer and streetview I have been able to survey your home from my sofa:D
( I will send on the survey invoice later;) )
Assuming that thr dish cannot be moved further to the west , ( would be on to another flat) and that you are on the ground or middle floor, I'm afraid you will not get a signal.
By the way , would you have permission from landlord ( Dublin Corporation?) to erect a dish?
Could see if enough people in your block would be interested in getting a SMATV ( communial dish) system installed?

    ha ha cheers.
Not sure about the communal thing, don't see why it would be a problem but it's too much of a bother to make it happen.
I suppose I could ask a neighbour about putting dish on their wall, I did that the last time but the installer told me the distance was to far away from my flat.

    ??
How far away was it ??

id say about 30 to 40 feet, basically 3 flats down.

Don't see why that would be a problem, unless he did not want to run the cable !!

Permission obtained from tenants of flats the cable would be crossing and the landlord?
I would not do it without.
    Nor would any proper installer.

he was just a dikk, from the off he had no intention of doing any work for some reason.
getting permission from someone to put the dish on their wall, or to use a current dish already there would be the problem, running cable on the wall between flats wouldnt be, not sure the council are too bothered tbh.
