Right- What is the bloody story with this? I've trolled and trolled and found two stories; A: You can't do it because of a RIF ban or B: Its OK to do. Whats going on?!

As fas as I know you need a licence to import RIFs as most will be hot hitting the country.

If you import one yourself you run the risk of customs seizing it and destroying it. It's not worth the risk as you have zero come back in these cases.

Most places though will order something in for you if you want something a bit special.

No, its just a family member in England is getting out of Airsoft and said I could have some of his old stuff and I want to get it over here but can't see how?

If I removed the spring would it be ok to import?

I'm not sure on something like that really....kinda of a strange one. best bet might be ring customs directly and ask :)

Or perhaps a trip over in the boat to pick the gear up would be a better option. I don't think they do much car searching.

Im not trying to trick customs or chance my arm - I'd rather have it 100% safe ;)

Well it's not realy a cheat lol

Guy down here in cork used to buy his guns in england and bring them back in his car. Never got hassled from what I know of.

Best bet would be a shout to customs then. Explain the issue and they might be able to sort something for you or at least give you advice on how to go about it :D

If it's under 1 joule you can import it - the import ban isn't being enforced because the retailer licensing hasn't been implemented yet. When the import ban is being enforced, I would imagine removing the spring wouldn't be enough to get them through - a RIF is a RIF whether it shoots something or not.

If it's over a joule, I'd imagine removing the spring at the moment would be enough to prevent it being destroyed, but it won't make any difference to it being delayed - if customs seize it for testing, they'll do so based on how it looks, not whether it shoots or not.

There are no licenses to import yet and only shops will get them when that system is implemented. And even then (and now) your not allowed import guns over 1J. All airsoft guns must be firing 1J or under before they hit Ireland. No exceptions.

So once the guns are shooting below 1J they're grand. Worst case scenario they get sent for testing and then sent on to you.

If his guns are over 1J which they probably are, getting him to remove the springs will be fine. And just replace them with 1J springs when they get here (Or if he's willing, get him to put in 1J springs while they have the gearbox open).
